Getting ready to test the igniter again.
We did some very low flow bench tests and things seem to be going well. We switched from the spark plug to a glow plug. This helps out our electronics since the coil produced a lot of EMF and inductive feed back. When flowing the compressed air and propane into the assembly with the glow plug it does light up and produce a nice flame. I have a pressure transducer so I need to get it on the system so we can measure chamber pressure.
We did some tests a few weeks ago and we got the igniter to light up. One problem we had was that we have oscillations in the check valve on the air side. We had to have the air flow so low that the pressure would come up in the chamber and would cause the valve to close. I think this was due to poor placement of the air injector. When we increased the flow and pressure of the air feed it would basically blow out the flame. The new configuration has the air and propane directly across from each other and they directly impinge.
I hope it goes well. Once we have this done we can start producing our first engine.
Here is the current setup.
